About Mr. Koza

John Koza, Director: Salem Philharmonic OrchetsraThe Orchestra’s current Music Director, John Koza, was appointed in 2014.Born and raised in Salem and now residing in Beverly, Mr. Koza received his Bachelor of Music degree in music education and music theory & composition from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. In addition to performing throughout the Boston area, he has played for most of the orchestras and choruses on the North Shore, including Salem's own Paul Madore Chorale, and is a founding member of Symphony by the Sea orchestra. Mr. Koza began his career with the Salem Philharmonic in 1976 as a clarinetist. He is also the assistant conductor, under SPO conductor emeritus Alan Hawryluk, of the Salem Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. By day, John is a librarian at North Shore Community College in Danvers, Mass.
